In winter, the price of apples suddenly went up by $0.75 per pound. Sam bought 3 pounds of apples at the new price for a total of $5.88. Write an equation to represent the cost of the apples in terms of the original price per pound, p, and find the value of p.

3 ( p + 0.75) = 5.88

to find p:-

3p + 2.25 = 5.88

3p = 5.88 - 2.25 = 3.63
p = $1.21 per pound <---- original price of apples
