The Townshend Acts were a series of charges and laws forced upon the colonists. The first, the Townshend Revenue Act, set taxation on glass, paint, oil, lead, paper, and tea. Different bills incorporated into the Townshend Acts added to the colonists' angry and non-cooperative response. The Pilgrims challenged by having extremely peaceful protests; to blacklist the English merchandise, Samuel Adams was part of the Sons of Liberty.
