let the two numbers be x and x+2
x^2+(x+2)^2=2594
x^2+x^2+4x+4=2594
2x^2+4x=2590
x^2+2x=1295
x^2+2x+1=1296
(x+1)^2=1296
x+1= 36 or -36
x=35 or -37
x+2=37 or -35
the two numbers can be 35, 37
or -37, -35
