7x2=14
14=a-4
+4

7 = a/2 + 4
first subtract 4 from both sides
7 (-4) = a/2 +4 (-4)
3 = a/2
Then isolate a by multiplying 2 to both sides
3(2) = a/2 x 2
6 = a
a = 6
