What caused the secession of the south from the union essay?

The reason the South seceded from the union is most likely because of the election of 1860. Southern states believed Abraham Lincoln would abolish slavery when elected so they created their own government known as the Confederacy. The President of the Confederacy was Jefferson Davis.
