Hi. It is important to consider things from one's point of view because that is how we learn, not only as an individual but as a society.
For example, let's say I am hired to design a logo (I am a graphic designer), so do I design the logo based on what I like or do I give the client what they want? In order for me to be successful, I had to learn that there is always two perceptions about any topic.
In my business, I have to listen to what my client's perceptions are in order to better meet their needs. Now that doesn't mean that I can't offer my opinion because I do, that is part of my job. By me sharing my point of view, the client's learns something about how design works. On the flip-side, I too learn something about them, their company, etc.
I know it is hard sometimes to consider someone else's point of view, particularly if you are adamant about your point of view but when you learn to consider a different theory then your own, you are actually allowing yourself to gain additional knowledge and you might look at the things in a different perspective.
I hope this helps a little.
Take care,
Diana
