Lithuania declared independence in 1990. Estonia, Latvia, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan all became independent in 1991.

Ukraine is the only one of those smaller states that didn't break away from the Soviet Union.
