In September 1940, Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Selective Training and Service Act of 1940. It was the United States' first peacetime draft. It required all American men having ages between 21-35 to register for the draft. The procedure for drafting is thru lottery. When a man gets drafted, he must serve for 12 months.
