The statement that processed, low-fat foods are typically low in calories is false. Despite the low fat content, processed low-fat foods often contain a lot of sugar and other unhealthy ingredients which can lead to calories. Fat is very important for our body and we should consume certain fats, like those in nuts, seeds and oily varieties of fish, which provide essential fatty acids (including the omega-3 variety).
