Okay. First off, let’s do the distribution in the left side of the problem, which is 15x - 3. Then, we combine like terms and we get 7x + 12 = -5x + 6. Now, let’s add 5x to both sides. When we do that, we get 12x + 12 = 6. Now. Let’s subtract 12 from both sides to get 12x = -6. Now, divide each side by 12 to isolate the x. You get -1/2. Let’s plug it in to see if it works. 7 * -1/2 is -3.5. -3.5 + 12 = 8.5. -5 * -1/2 is 2.5. 2.5 + 6 = 8.5. 8.5 = 8.5. There. x = -1/2.
