Melissa wants to buy a new pair of shoes that have an oringinal price of $45 . Melissa has a coupon for 20 percent off to use on them , which amounts to a discount of $9 . If sales tax is 9 percent on the final price of shoes , how much tax will she need to pay?

45 - 9 = 36

In that case you would multiply 36 by .09 or 9% (either way is fine)

36 * .09 = 3.24

And when you multiply with a decimal, you don't have to line it up, just make sure you move your decimal to the correct place after you find the outcome
