The Siege of Vicksburg was a major union victory because it allowed the Union forces to control the Mississippi River and had the effect to cut the Confederate forces in half by isolation.

The siege of Vicksburg was a major union victory because it was one of the most heavily defended Confederate fort, helped them complete the anaconda plan, and effectively destroyed the confederate morale while boosting there own
