P.vulgaris is a rod shape bacteria which can be found in the intestinal tracts of both animals and humans. A number of tests can be used to identify P. vulgaris, they include the following:
1. fermentation test: the bacteria ferment glucose and amygdalin but can not ferment mannitol and lactose.
2. mixed acid fermentation test: the bacteria test positive for mixed acid fermentation test.
3. API 20E identification system: the bacteria produce positive results for sulfur reduction, urease production, tryptophan deaminase production and indole production.
