Various tactics included non violent attempts such as large scale farming, having slaves, and Western education. The Cherokees attempted legal action as a means of resistance but were defeated as the state of Georgia didn't recognize their sovereign status. President Jackson refused to give in to the tribes and ultimately removed 40,000 Indians from the land East of the Mississippi river.
