A perimeter is a boundary or path that surrounds a shape. Generally, we have to find the sum of the whole sides of the figure. Therefore, we have to sum the following

circumference of the 2 semi-circles + the length of the 2 sides of the square.

let's find the circumference of the semi-circle

Note we are not adding the diameter of the semi-circle because it is not the boundary of the whole figure.

\begin{gathered} \text{circumference of a circle=2}\pi r \\ \text{circumfence of semi-circle=}\pi r \\ \text{circumfence of semi-circle}=3.14159*1=3.14159\text{ inches} \\ \end{gathered}

For 2 semi circles = 3.14159 + 3.14159 =6.28318

Therefore,

perimeter\text{ of the shape = }=6.28318+2+2=10.28318\text{ }\approx10.28\text{ inches}

The area of the figure can be found below

\begin{gathered} \text{area =area of 2 semi-circle+area of a square} \\ \text{area}=\pi r^2+l^2 \\ \text{area}=3.14159*1^2+2^2 \\ \text{area}=3.14159+4=7.14159inches^2\approx7.14inches^2 \end{gathered}
