What effects does adding a constant have to an exponential function?

It depends where you introduce constant

Exponential function: f(x) = e^x

y = e^x + c ----> shift function up c units
y = e^(x−c) ----> shift function right c units
y = e^(cx) ------> dilates function horizontally by factor of 1/c
y = c e^x -------> dilates function vertically by factor of c
