in estimating disease prevalence, the number of people affected must be determined and adjusted to the size of the source population. this way the number of affected individuals can be roughly estimated but it should be in a specific time and specific place.

Prevalence, a measure of a population's burden of disease in a given location and time, may be calculated using a count of the number of affected individuals. To make a prevalence estimate, simply take a count of the number of affected individuals, and adjust this count to the size of the source population.
