x^2 + 6x = 7
Divide 6 by 2 and square the result and add to both sides of the equation.
6/2 = 3 3^2 = 9 x^2 + 6x + 9 = 7 + 9
x^2 + 6x + 9 = 16
(x+3)^2 = 16
x+3 = +- Sqrt 16) = +-4
x = -3+4 = 1
x = -3-4 = -7
