After my salary was increased by 12%, it was $62,720$. What was my salary before the increase?

62720 x 0.12 = 7526.4

62720 - 7326.4 = 55393.6

55393.6 is your answer

First multiply the percentage with the amount it gives you. Then subtract the amount you got from the total, to get original.
