ANSWER: Thomas Jefferson wanted to abolish all the internal taxes and aimed at running the government only by the trade tariff tax. His main four aims were:

1. Reduction of Government expenditure

2. A Balanced Budget

3. Reducing the national debt

4. Alleviating tax burden

This is why Jefferson abolished all the internal taxes including the Whiskey Tax

Thomas Jefferson did not accept the whiskey tax and the protective tariff that President Hamilton was able to approve in Congress. To Thomas Jefferson, the United States should be a nation centered agriculture with little dependence on large financial institutions such as banks, he believed that no debt should be raised against United States citizens lasting for 19 years so that the next generation would be benefited and could start fresh.
