We can only buy two kinds of pots, the 8-inch pots or 10-inc pots. The price of each pot multiplied by the total of pots of that kind that we bought must be equal to the total amount we spent. So we can write the first equation as shown below:


12\cdot x+15\cdot y=78

The only possible option with this answer is the last one. "x + y = 6 and 12x + 15y = 78".
