Question

I'm absolutely stomped by these questions, I asked my mom, my grandpa, my grandma, my mom even asked some people at work and I just can't figure this out. Can someone help?

I have not learned this math but I would like to try and help.

From what I think I know, you have to plug in the numbers that represent the variables.

x = -2 and y = the number that will add or subtract to 4

Let's try it.
-10(-2) + y = 4

20 + (-16) = 4

x = -1 and y = the number that will add or subtract to 4

-10(-1) + y = 4

10 + (-6) = 4

Again, I haven't learned this math. Hopefully I understood correctly and it helped!
