Set the equation equal to zero.

9x+6=0
Subtract 6 from both sides
9x = -6
Divide both sides by 9
x=-6/9
or -2/3

2(5x-3)=0
Distribute
10x-6=0
add 6 to both sides
10x=6
Divide by 10 on both sides
x=6/10 or 4/5

5y+14=0
-14 from both sides
5y=-14
divide both sides by 5
y=-14/5
or -2 and 4/5
