Muscle cells have high energy requirements. As a result, muscle cells are powered by organelles known as mitochondria. The mitochondria are the site of cellular respiration. In cellular respiration, glucose is converted into adenosine triphosphate, which is a molecule that can store large amounts of available energy in a cell.
