slopes of two parallel lines are equal

from the equation y=3x-1, slope =3

using slope m=3 and point (-1,3) , we find the y intercept

y=mx+b

3=3(-1) +b

b=6

plugging m=3 and b=6 in slope intercept form to get the equation

y=3x+6
