2x + 12 = 18
18 - 12 = 6
2x = 6
x = 3

so you want to drop the absolute value signs and you need to make two equations:

2x + 12 = 18 OR 2x + 12 = -18
subtract both sides by 12 for both equations
2x = 6 OR 2x = -30
divide both sides by 2 for both equations
x = 3 OR x = -15

i hope this helps!!
