Length is 14 inches, width is 10 inches.
If you need area, it's 140 inches.

2L + 2w = 48

L = w + 4

2(w+4) + 2w = 48
2w + 8 + 2w = 48
4w + 8 = 48
4w = 40
w = 10

L = w + 4
L = 10 + 4
L = 14

Answer: 10 inches × 14 inches

Work:

length = x inches
width = x - 4 inches
perimeter = 2(l+w)

48 = 2[(x)+(x - 4)]
48 = 2(2x - 4)
24 = 2x - 4
28 = 2x
14 = x

length = x inches = 14 inches
width = x - 4 inches = 14 - 4 = 10 inches
