first add "like terms" (terms that have the same exponent for the x variable):
3x-2x+4=5x-4x-8
x+4=x-8
actually, it is not possible for these to be equal. Because if you subtract x from both sides you get 4=-8 which is not true. did you forget to write an exponent or something in the equations?
