Calvin is accused of writing several bad checks. when he appears before the judge, calvin asks for help preparing his defense because he is too poor to afford a lawyer. the judge tells calvin that he is sorry he is poor, but calvin will just have to prepare his own case, without any help. ¬¬¬¬¬¬¬

This would be a violation of the 6th Amendment. Every defendant is permitted to have counsel who will represent him in a court of law, and this counsel is allowed to help the defendant prepare his case and those who will testify on his behalf.
