Most of the earliest surviving examples of Jewish art date from the
"Hellenistic and Roman" periods.
The Hellenistic period covers the time of Mediterranean history between the demise of Alexander the Great in 323 BC and the development of the Roman Realm as connoted by the Battle of Actium in 31 BC and the resulting success of Ptolemaic Egypt the next year.
