Each of the 13 colonies had a charter, that can be seen as a written agreement between the Colony and the Parliament. This charter authorized a colonial legislature that was elected by property owner males.

England influenced the colonial government by appointing governors that the king chose. But the main influence England had in the colonies was by establishing several laws that influenced the colonies economy, which eventually led to the American Revolution.
