The French and Indian war was expensive, and greatly increased Britain's national debt. As a result, they began taxing their American colonies really hard, which caused American resentment for Britain to grow. Also, with France out of North America, the colonies had the opportunity to expand their territories, but Britain told them not to (a decision called the Royal Proclamation of 1763). America got extremely angry about this decision and this eventually led to America going to war with the British Crown.
