Sample Response: Temperature is a measure of the kinetic energy of particles in a substance. As temperature increases, the atoms or molecules in a substance gain energy. As temperature decreases, the particles lose energy. A change in the energy of particles causes a change in their arrangement. A change in the arrangement of particles can lead to a physical change.
