In what way did the colonists hold some political power in the colonies

Colonists, before the Intolerable acts were passed, had the right to hold state assemblies / councils between themselves. Colonists would debate on issues in their city and state. This was prohibited, as previously stated, by the Intolerable acts, passed in order to control colonists after the incident that was the Boston Tea Party.
