What is the purpose of the scene in Leo Tolstory’s the Death of Ivan Liyich in which Ivan Liyich thinks about the following logical argument known as a syllogism?  “Caius is a man, men are mortal, therefore Caius is mortal.”

Let´s clarify what a syllogism is before analysing the scene. it is considered a "logical argument that implies deductive reasoning" in order to get a conclusion usually " based on 2 or more propositions". So it can be said that in this case, it shows that Ivan realised that he is about to die just because he is man thus he is mortal.
