Combine like terms to make a simpler expression:
5k+(−2k)−(−1)

3k+1. Combine 5k and -2k. You should be left with 3k. Then you should be left with 3k-(-1) which is simply 3k+1.

you add 5k+(-2k)=3k
then you add the one on to the equation to get 3k+1
