Hunter-gatherer societies had the benefit of being able to move from a location to another without worrying about leaving behind fields and farms. They also had a diet rich in protein, which was beneficial for their day to day activities. Skilled hunters would be able to provide a lot of food in a relatively short amount of time (as opposed to growing crops from scratch), using the rest of the time for other activities.
