Answer:

The plant stem has a function in transportation of water from the roots to the leaves. The xylem vessels present in the stem conducts water by the application of adhesive forces. The water molecules gets adhere to the walls of the xylem vessels, the water is being taken up by the capillary action against the force of gravity exerted by the earth.
