A biological community depends upon the abiotic factors such as temperature, relative humidity, light, etc for their survival. Disturbances that occur in the environment such as fire, flood, drought, etc also damage the biological community. The biological community that can withstand in the prolonged drought condition survives while those are sensitive dies.
Due to prolonged drought, the water table of that area will decrease and no water will be available for consumption by animals and humans. Prolonged drought also affects the aquatic environment such as ponds, rivers, etc.
Scarcity of water and uncommonly dry weather are two factors that occurs due to prolonged drought. This will cause increase in mortality of crops and livestock. This will ultimately affect the agriculture of that area. The cattle are also affected by prolonged drought due to unavailability of fodder crops.
