Hey!

Hope this helps...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Because it is asking for 5 pounds of both bananas and apples, we will multiple the amount per pound for each by 5...
Bananas: $1.40 * 5 = $7
Apples: $0.80 * 5 = $4
The Total is: $11
Now we ask: Is $10 greater than or equal to $11?
Answer: No
So...
The answer is: Janice's mother did not give Janice enough money, and need $1 more to make the full purchase...
5 pounds of bananas cost 0.80*5 = 4 dollars
5 pounds of apples cost 1.40 *5 = 7 dollars
4+7 = 11 dollars
11 dollars is greater than 10 so she does not have enough and needs 1 more dollar
