3x^2 + 4x -4

ax^2 + ax + c

a = 3
b = 4
c = -4

Start by multiplying a * c together

a * c = 3 * - 4 = - 12

Find two number that multiply to -12 and also add up to 4

6 and - 2 can be an option because ...

6 * - 2 = - 12
6 - 2 = 4

Now you rewrite the equation to solve for factors...

3x^2 + 6x - 2x - 4

Factor out like terms...

3x ( x + 2 ) - 2 ( x + 2)

THE FACTORS OF THIS QUADRATIC EQUATION ARE ( x + 2) ( 3x - 2)
