The development of Georgia's railroad system and the introduction of the cotton gin were similar in that each was a major factor in the economic prosperity that characterized the antebellum period in Georgia's history. Taken together, the railroads and the cotton gin helped make "King Cotton" the foundation of Georgia's economy in the years leading up to the Civil War.

The correct answer should be
d. each was a major factor in the economic prosperity that characterized the antebellum period in georgia's history.

The production before the war more than doubled and this is why the South needed more workers so the number of slaves actually increased drastically. Many historians claim that things like the cotton gin were responsible for the start of the civil war.
