Popular is a predicate adjective. A predicate adjective is an adjective that comes after a linking verb and describes the subject of the sentence. The word "popular" is an adjective and means that the subject (in this case the roller-coaster ride) is liked and/or frequented by lots of people. another example of a predicate adjective is " the boy is tall."
