It might be said that the boy´s identity is developed throughout the story. At the beginning, Bruno might not be aware of his privileged life, leaving in Berlin. He has a lovely family, good friends and the possibility of travelling around during day and night. Later on, he is curious enough to see what happens on the other side of the fence before he never saw Shmuel again. Finally his identity might have been reviled. He did no know he was about to safer danger while getting out of the rain not to be sick. in that particular moment he made a decision , to say with his friend and look for his father. This decision might highlight how he decided to help his friend and stay with him no matter what, "holding his hand".
