3x = 4(x-2.25)

3x = 4x-9

add 9 to both sides

3x+9 =4x

subtract 3 x from each side

x=9

Tonya's items were $9 each

Tony's items were 9-2.25 = 6.75 each

check:

9*3=27

4 *6.75 = 27
