On the first day of summer a rainstorm brought 2.29 inches of rain to the area. During the rest of the summer there was 3 times as much rain as on the first day. What was the total number of inches of rainfall for the summer?

To solve this problem, we simply have to multiply the original inches of rain to that of how many times it was for the rest of summer. So in this case, simply multiply 2.29 by 3, that is:

2.29 inches * 3 = 6.87 inches
