The is increasing because of the burning of fossil fuels such as coal,oil,natural gas,etc.

As we burn fossil fuels, which are carbon containing compounds, for fuel, we increase atmospheric carbon dioxide at a rate faster than carbon-fixing components of the cycle, like plants, can use it, leading to increased carbon dioxide.
