Both Malinche and Pocahontas are wrapped in myth and the legends about them go beyond their true lives, creating a distorted version of their tragic lives. 1. Both were forced to serve the conquering leaders, one Hernán Cortez and the other John Smith. 2. Both women were very intelligent, being the point of union between the indigenous peoples and the conquerors (Spanish and British). 3. They had children with the foreign leaders or aristocrats with whom they lived, the Malinche with Hernán Cortez had a son, Martin; and Pocahontas with a noble colonist named John Rolfe, had a son named Thomas. 4. The two women ended their lives far from their native cities, and living with the conquerors or colonists. 5. La Malinche and Pocahontas, are the symbol of union of two cultures, two races, the conquered and the conqueror.
