The publication of Upton Sinclair’s book, The Jungle further irritated the general public since it labelled the dirty environments of the meat packaging industry in slaughterhouses.  Under the public pressure, the Congress approved the Pure Food and Drug Act. This act instructed that the citation of the quality, strength, or purity of the active drug substance be visibly specified on the drug.
