George Whitefield and Jonathan Edwards were the two most famous preachers of the Great Awakening. They defended that the religious power was in the hands of each one of us not in the hands of the Church or any religious authority. Because of that, they tried to inspire mostly common people around America, such as rural farmers, shopkeepers and people in small towns.
